If additional medical information is needed to make a decision, Disability Determination Services (DDS) may schedule a Consultative Examination (CE) for a claimant.
The goal of a CE is for a third-party doctor (independent physician) to give an objective opinion regarding your medical condition. Consultative exams can be physical or psychological. Tests such as x-rays or blood draws may be obtained during the CE.
Attendees should be prepared with a list of medical conditions, treatments, and medications. Concise and accurate answers to should be given and you should follow the examiner’s instructions to the best of your ability.
Disability Determination Services is responsible for all the costs associated with the medical exam. The exams are usually brief, and in most cases, if you do not attend your consultative examination, your application is denied.
