How A Severe Neck Injury May Prove Disabling

Whether you sustained a severe neck injury in a car, workplace, or home accident, the residual effects can be disabling despite a patient’s following of his or her doctor’s treatment plan, including surgery, medication, and physical therapy. Many people with severe injuries to their cervical spines are unable to find any relief even after exhausting all treatment options and ultimately come to spend almost all of their time lying in bed or in a recliner so that the weight of their head is not pressing down on their neck, which severely increases pain.

An individual who spends the vast majority of his or her day limited to lying in bed or a recliner because of persistent and severe pain in his or her cervical spine is clearly unable to perform even sedentary work for even one day, let alone eight hours per day, five days per week, fifty weeks for year, because such an individual cannot sit six hours out of an eight hour day or stand and/or walk two hours out of an eight hour day. Even if such an individual could sit upright in a desk chair as is required for a sedentary employment for a single two hour period, there is very good chance that such an individual would be in such intense pain afterward that he or she would be incapacitated for days afterward, even while taking pain medication as directed by a treating physician.
