Client R.B., a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, also known as West Point, and Iraq War combat veteran, was critically injured in a skiing accident. After spending four months in a coma and undergoing twelve months of extensive rehabilitation just to relearn how to communicate verbally, R.B. filed an initial application for Social Security disability benefits with the assistance of his wife. However, in spite of the severity of his injuries, his initial claim for SSDI benefits was denied.
R.B. then contacted Viner Disability Law, and our office represented R.B. in an administrative law judge hearing, which we scheduled after filing a request for hearing within sixty days of R.B.’s notice of denial of his initial application. R.B.’s claim was then approved by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for a closed period of disability as at the time of the SSA’s decision, he was recovered from his injuries enough to be able to return to working full-time. R.B. and his wife currently reside in Boulder, Colorado.
